Dr. Shelly Figgatt grew up in High Point and returned to the Triad after graduating from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She has been with Total Care and Skeet Club since June of 2002 and her interests include feline medicine, behavior, and client education.
She is married to Patrick and has two children, Alex and Kathryn, and three kitties, Mini, Oliver, and Gus. She enjoys spending time with her family and participating in various church activities including singing in the choir and going on mission trips to Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. In 2022, she started a new hobby of dancing competitively, following in her daughter’s footsteps. Who says an old dog can’t learn new tricks?
Fun Fact: Dr. Figgatt has an identical twin, so if you think you see her around town, maybe you do or maybe you don’t!
Dr. Melinda Whitaker received her DVM from the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has practiced in a variety of settings, including mixed animal practice, corporate practice, exclusively small animal practice, and most recently, in 2 of the largest animal shelters in North Carolina. She holds a BA in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s in Shelter Medicine from the University of Florida. Currently, her primary area of professional interest is preventative medical care.
Fun Fact: Dr. Whitaker grew up helping her dad train Brittany Spaniels for field trials and has served as an American Kennel Club-approved field trial and hunting test judge.
While studying at NC State University, she met and married her husband, Doug. Dr. Whitaker has two adult children and three cats (Mac, Baby Kat, and Thelma). She enjoys cheering for NCSU and Appalachian State, reading, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Avery Gottwalt grew up in High Point, North Carolina with a love of animals instilled in her from an early age, with both of her parents being veterinarians. After working at their practice during high school, she then obtained her undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science at Clemson University, where she also showed dairy cattle and did research in ruminant nutrition. She graduated from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 and practiced in both the Triangle and Triad. Her clinical interests include dermatology, preventative medicine, and geriatric care, which she is thrilled to continue as a member of Total Care and Skeet Club Veterinary Hospital. When not at work, Dr. Gottwalt enjoys running, backpacking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, Brian, dog, Maverick, and cat, Liesel.
Dr. Ashley Kimery is a passionate veterinarian known for her dedication to animal care. Graduating from LSU’s esteemed School of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, she embarked on a fulfilling career in veterinary medicine. She enjoys urgent care cases, internal medicine and is most passionate about small animal dentistry.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Kimery shares her home with five beloved cats, a handsome German Shepherd puppy, and a majestic horse named Mack. Dr. Kimery finds solace in the pages of her favorite books and the sights, sounds, and smells of the barn. Almost all of her spare times is spent on one of these two activities.
With a heart committed to the well-being of animals and a spirit enriched by her hobbies, Dr. Kimery continues to make a positive impact of the lives of both pets and their owners in Greensboro and the surrounding areas.
